Heveliusplatz

History

The name Zuchthausplatz originates from the correctional facility established in 1629 at the site of the later garrison hospital. In 1894, this square was renamed Heveliusplatz. Today, it is named after the defenders of the Polish Post Office in Gdańsk, which was located here from 1921 to 1939.
