Bootsmanngasse

boczmannstrate (1358), bosmanstrate (1377)

History

The name of this street has nothing to do with the English word boot or German word Boot. Referred to as boczmannstrate and bosmanstrate back in the 14th century, the name of this street is based on the word bosz, or Bosseler - a handy man, or worker, or sailor.

It isn't until 1805 that this street is referred to as Bottsmannsgasse or Bootsmannsgasse.
