Friedenstraße

History

Before 1937, the streets Friedenstraße and Pommersche Chaussee were merged and named "Peace Street" in memory of the Treaty of Oliva in 1660.

In this treaty, At Oliwa (Oliva), Poland, peace was made between Sweden, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Habsburgs, and Brandenburg-Prussia, recognizing Sweden's sovereignty over Livonia, Brandenburg's over Ducal Prussia, John II Casimir Vasa's withdrawal of his claim to the Swedish throne, the restoration of occupied territories, and religious freedom for Catholics in Livonia and Prussia.

Today it is named after Antoni Abraham (1869-1923), a Kashubian-Polish politician.
