Petershagen

History

Originally, the name "Petershagen" referred to the entire area from Heumarkt to Altschottland. In the 17th century, the construction of fortifications divided it into two parts: Petershagen inside and outside the gate. By the mid-18th century, streets were named and laid out. The second Petershagen became part of Altschottland in 1904. The name comes from the personal name Peter and "Hagen," meaning enclosure. The modern name, meaning "dense thicket," has no relation to the historical name or the area itself.
