Promenade

History

An old street, always named after the Hagelsberg hill, at the foot of which it ran. It was only in 1902 that it received the name Promenade. At that time, a section of Neugarten Street was also incorporated into the Promenade. Around 1910, it was renamed Nordpromenade (North Promenade) to distinguish it from the second Promenade, called Südpromenade (South Promenade). An exception, of course, was the Nazi era, during which many places were renamed after contemporary heroes. This street was also renamed after an SA member during that period. A part of the former Nordpromenade (house numbers 14m and 14n) formed the Hagelsberg Ditch. In return, the former Steinbocksbrill was added as Nordpromenade No. 9. After the war, the street was renamed Straße des 3. Mai (3rd of May Street), after the Polish national holiday.
